Words, So Many Words

Happy New Year to you all! I hope the changing of the year has been good to you.  Being as it's that time of year looking back on a year of fic writing seemed like a good idea so I'm stealing this long prompt from many of you.    I can't believe how hard this was to write, and LJ being all wonky certainly didn't help matters any, but for what it's worth here goes.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Total Word Count For The Year
138,533 this year, all SPN fic, this is my first full year of writing fic, in 2011 I only wrote 57,388.  So I'm full-on impressed with myself.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?

I wrote a whole lot more than I did in 2011, which isn't too big of a surprise but now that I look at all of it together it's really quite a lot.                                                   Where did you publish/archive your stories?

I post them all here and then over on AO3 AO3 is actually nicer for reading I think, and I enjoy using it now that I've figured it out a bit more.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2012?

I'm pretty stuck on Sam/Dean (obviously), so I guess the only one I'm surprised about writing would be Gen Sam and Dean.  This year there will be more variety as I'm signed up forspnpairingbingo nbsp;                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?Built To Last, because I think about their future all the time and coming up with a happy as possible ending is as good as it can get.

Now, what's your most popular story?
My BigBang story, Soul's Weight is by far the most popular as far as hits goes.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

Writing stories with characters than fandom doesn't like (Jesse the AntiChrist and Bela specifically).  Turns out that people really won't read a story that has those two whch I honestly didn't know.  They both are great characters imo so I enjoyed writing them and seeing what else they had to say.

From my past year of writing, what was the...

Best story

Why is this so hard to pick (like choosing one of my kids as my fave you know?), it also feels like bragging which I suck at big time.  Okay, fine, my best story of 2012 is Ghosts of Room 118.Most under-appreciated by the universe
I don't know really, I'm just writing because I want to, and don't expect a lot of feedback.  It's wonderful to get it of course, really wonderful, but I'm not expecting it at all.  Sometimes I'm surprised when one story gets more of a response than another that I think is better, but I think a lot of it is due to timing of when stuff gets posted.  I know I end up skipping over things during certain times of the week, etc.  So I try not to worry too much about it and just hope that anyone who reads my stuff and doesn't comment enjoyed it anyways. I know I'm not even close to 100% on posting comments on fics that I like (a resolution for this year is to better with that!).

Most fun

I think writing Treasure House was where I had the most fun, I really loved the initial piece of art that I got for this ReverseBigBang and the very open ended prompt.  It was fun incorporating all of the little details from siriala's collage into the case fic.  I had fun coming up with an original character and looking up historical info for the setting.

Most disappointing

Probably would have to pick While My Heart Recovers, Yours Goes On, I don't think I got enough of the heartache hurty stuff in there for Sam, or the Dean freaking out about his increasing attraction to his brother.  It was hard to leave it as UST, but that was the challenge.

Story that could have been better
I suppose all of them, I re-read some of them and don't exactly cringe, but I see a lot that I would now go back and change. The one that could be improved the most is probably Your Voice Rapping On My Windowsill, it needed better description of the bonding aspect of the story.

Story that changed your own perception of the characters

I think Soul's Weight did, not on Sam and Dean, but my perception of the other characters I used such as Death, Chuck/God and Jesse the AntiChrist.  Show hasn't gone into much depth on any of them really, and writing them as such key parts of this story really made me focus on them and learn about them more.

Most sexyWithin Without  I really like the whole tone of the story, and finally wrote a sex scene that actually got me going.

Story with the sweetest moment

To me, I'd say I I Carved Your Name Across My Eyelids as the sweetest moment at the end,  maybe tied with the Valentine's related story I Keep Asking hen Dean finally gets Sam to say yes.

Story that made you cry

Hmmm, honestly, several of them did, but then I'm an easy crier. So yeah, Soul's Weight  Ghosts of Room 118, both come to mind.

Hardest to write  Gift Box as hardest, I had so many different directions for what happened after they got out of the box, I liked the one I eventually settled on.

Easiest to write
Everyone Hail to The Pumpkin Car  was easy, my first true attempt at something cracky too, that picture was just so inspiring and goofy.

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story

Not sure that this really applies to me since I don't go too hardcore/kinky (at least not yet!), but maybe the final sex scene in Within Without
Most eyeroll-worthy titleOur Heaven's Built for Two (Duh),   it just went with the story okay?  But yeah, it makes me roll my eyes too.

Most overdue
Nothing overdue, except I didn't even start a fic I signed up to write for spncinema, a Sam/Dean for "The Adjustment Bureau", so maybe this year if I get the movie and rewatch it.

This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most

Not sure there was one really, looking back on the year, I wrote mostly established relationship stuff, or first-time, most of it concentrating on Sam and Dean communicating.  And I get that it is out of character for them, really I do, but as a writer, I like putting them in situations where they have to anyways.  A lot of times it comes down to Dean realizing that the only way to help Sam is to actually talk to him, especially in season 7 fics where Sam is struggling with hallucinations.  The story that demonstrates that most is Soul's Weight
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?

Nothing as specific as a word count, mostly just to keep writing as much as I can and to get the spn pairing bingo thing done, maybe stretch myself by writing something on the kink meme (gasp realy!).  I am starting to think about writing my own original work, so we'll see about that...
